Abstract

This thesis is about mechanical properties of weak rocks and the methods used for their determination. This work deals with weak rocks on theoretical and practical basis. In the introduction to this issue the general properties of weak rocks are described, as well as clasification of rock mass and definition of basic terms. Second section is focused on shear strength of weak rocks, risks with their determination and secondary conditions for shear tests usage. Properties and behavior of weak rocks are discussed on selected locations of Carpathian Flysh, including rating of their engineering geological conditions. Practical part of this thesis deals with determination of strength characteristics of reconstituted samples in laboratory. The properties of weak rocks from the stage of preparation and realization of selected tunnels are discussed, as well as their comparison with derived parameters according to RMR and GSI clasifications.
