Stanovení množství jílovité frakce v zemině pomocí konzistenčních mezí

Abstract

The bachelor thesis is about determination of the amount of clay fraction in the soil using consistency limits. The evaluation is based on a comparison of the standard method for determining the amount of clay fraction (hydrometer method) and the method for obtaining the amount of clay fraction according to Savage. The first method is based on the standard ČSN EN ISO 17 892-4 (november 2017). The second method (Savage’s method) is based on knowledge of consistency limits. The theoretical part includes a description of the clay fraction with a focus on three clay minerals (kaolinite, illite and montmorillonite), determination of the clay fraction according to the standard method and according to the Savage’s method. In the practical part, an analysis of methods is created on the two sets of data: 1) six mixtures of kaolin and sand, 2) 197 soil samples taken in situ. In the first set of data, a dependence was found. When amount of clay fraction is increasing, the difference in the results of the two investigated methods also increases. For the second data set, this dependence was not confirmed. The results differed by up to 226,42%. For the selected data set, Savage’s method proved to be unsuitable. It would be appropriate to examine this method on another sample of data and verify it.
