Abstract

The master's thesis deals with the assessment of the condition and functionality of the reclamation sealing layer of the Životice landfill. The main aim of the thesis was to identify degraded zones of the surface sealing layer and to image the subsurface structures of the landfill body. These structures may be affected by malfunction or reduced efficiency of the reclaimed upper sealing layer. A combination of geophysical methods and remote sensing techniques was used in the study. The areal assessment of the landfill was conducted by using the dipole electromagnetic profiling (DEMP) method, while a detailed image of subsurface conditions was provided by the electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) method. The thesis also included the processing of Sentinel-2 multispectral imagery and the calculation of NDMI and NDWI spectral indices. The results evaluate the suitability of the combined application of the selected methods for monitoring the technical condition of waste landfills.
