Abstract
This bachelor's thesis is focused on fiber optics, description and practical implementation of an optical fiber interferometric sensor in the field of rail traffic. The introduction is focused on a basic understanding of the optical fiber's function and optical fiber sensors with a closer focus on the selected type of interferometric sensor, the Mach-Zehnder type. The practical part of the work is focused on the description of the assembled functional sample of the selected sensor type and its practical testing in real rail transport of the city of Ostrava in order to analyze the effect of sensor distance from the edge of the rail on the ability to detect the passage of tram vehicles.
