Abstract
From the point of view of energy and raw materials policy, the Czech Republic is in
a period of turbulent change. The war, raw materials and energy crisis, which could only be
experienced in science fiction films or literature, are currently felt by the citizens of the
Czech Republic in the form of existential and, indirectly, security concerns. The period of
several years associated with the global coronavirus pandemic, emission allowance trading
and decarbonisation has mainly affected the energy industry, the effects of which will be felt
by all sectors. This period has shown how it is necessary to maintain energy self-sufficiency.
The energy potential consisting of coal, nuclear and gas is a partial solution, which must be
appropriately complemented by renewable sources. From this perspective, it can be said that
mining has endured one of the biggest crises and it will still be necessary to develop and
modernise this sector.
