Dělnická kolonie Zimný důl: Bydlení napříč generacemi

Abstract

The diploma thesis deals with the solution of contemporary housing in the post-industrial context on the border between the city and the countryside. The project explores the development potential of the site of the former workers' colony Zimný důl, which is now owned by the Heimstaden company. Since the 1850s, these specific building sites in the built-up area of Orlová provided housing for employees of mines and industrial enterprises. The area is still a historical record of mining life of that time. The subject of the work is the design of buildings for housing, public space and suitable civic amenities. The main idea behind the design is to create a home for young people, individuals, starting families and active seniors in an effort to provide these generationally diverse groups with a sense of privacy, but also the opportunity to integrate into the community. The aim of the diploma thesis is to find a specific solution to breathe new life into the former workers' colony Zimný důl.
