Abstract

Nowadays requirements for reducing the energy costs constantly increase and mainly the steel quality is followed during its production. This leads steelmaking companies to development of new technologies that they meet these stringent criteria so that they can face the competition of the market. One of the technologies which is deployed to the steelmaking at ArcelorMittal Ostrava a.s. is the vacuum metallurgy. The introduction of this technology achieves higher purity of steel, especially in terms of gas content in the metal. Due to the new conditions of the steelmaking technology it is also necessary to solve other circumstances that relate to the production of steel. It means primarily to ensure the existing life of the lining ladles and try to find a type of lining, which would enable a longer life and material optimization in the context of the use of secondary steel production and the entire work cycle ladles in terms of this technology of steel production in the company.
