Abstract

Adsorption of mercury ions onto montmorillonite is the purporte of barchelor work. In the text part, the characteristics and properties of heavy metals and mercury, the adsorption mechanism and the structure of phyllosilicate is described. In the experimental part the adsorption of mercury onto montmorillonite is explained and diagrams of adsorption isotherms and X-ray powder diffractometer analysis are presented. Also the influence of pH value was observed. Montmorillonite is suitable adsorbent. Maxima of adsorbed amount of Hg (II) was 0,35 meq/g, as 29,9% of cation exchange capacity of montmorillonite. The Langmuier adsorption isotherm fits the data best. Monolayer adsorption was affected by low pH value of operating solutions. The X-ray analysis records demonstrates increase of interlayer distance from 0,05 to 0,18 nm.
