Abstract

Dissertation thesis deals with research on the impact of sample preparation of mineral resources to the contact angle, and also by measuring the contact angle and watching its addiction in relation to chemical, physical and other characteristics of observed mineral resources. To express the surface properties of pyrites and coal the value of contact angle was measured at work, which is one of the few methods by which it is possible to measure the properties of the phase interface directly. To determine the contact angle of pyrites measurements were carried out on samples with realistic and polished surface using solutions of potassium and sodium xanthogens and for comparison and statistical evaluation contact angle measurements of water were used. In further work the impact of the chemical composition and genesis of deposits of pyrites was studied. To identify and develop an appropriate methodology for contact angle measurement of coal following procedures were used. Pouring the samples in epoxy resin (grain size over 2mm and below 0.045mm) and in carnauba wax (grain size from 0.1 to 0.5 mm), tablet compressing and poured tablets in epoxy resin with subsequent polishing. All coal samples were subjected to petrographic analysis and elementary analysis and two selected samples were subjected to total determination of absorption. Vitrinite content ranged from 62.7 to 70.3%, and the reflectance value from 1.350 to 1.722. In each grain size of coal samples the contntet of fixed carbon, volatile matter and ash was set and average value of contact angle was set. Dependencies of contact angle between all analysis results were monitored in complex coal samples and in individual grain size of coals. When evaluating the analytical results emphasis was placed on correct statistical processing of results using statistical analysis with the number of statistical tests
