Abstract

This works deals with a study of terrestrial gastropods on Těšín limestones in the Czech part of the Těšín Silesia, in the neighbourhood of Dolní Líštná. This work contains a morfology of gastropods, a calcium as a limiting factor and several outstanding limestone areas of the Moravian-Silesian region are mentioned as an example. The research took place in three former and considerably overgrown limestone quarries. The limestone areas are highly favorable place for occurrence of terrestrial gastropods due to the availibility of calcium which is an important factor for them. The total of 28 species of terrestrial gastropods out of 770 found individuals were identified. The important finding was a gastropod Discus perspectivus which is calcareous and survives in these habitats. On the contrary, occurrence of gastropod Arion distinctus and Arion lusitanicus bears evidence of a significant human impact.
