Abstract

The diploma thesis deals with the development of rural areas which form the majority of the territory of the European Union. Rural areas are specific in their diverse environmental, social and economic elements, and face a wide range of problems, including for example insufficient functioning of the economy, lack of service and infrastructure or insufficient use of resources. On this account, the importance of rural areas has increased considerably over the recent years. Rural development policy should accompany and complement Cohesion Policy, Common Agricultural Policy, Common Fisheries Policy and also contribute to promotion of sustainable rural development. The aim of this diploma thesis is to define the issue of rural development in the context of the European Union's Rural Development Policy. Based on the theoretical knowledge a project plan will be compiled serving as a protentional request for support from the Integrated Regional Operational Program in the 2014-2020 programming period. The accession of the Czech Republic to the European Union for was an advantage the Czech countryside. Especially in the form of an increase of financial resources that help not only to develop rural areas but also to reduce disparities.
