Abstract

The subject of this thesis is the former worker's colony area in Orlová – Zimný důl. The colony was founded between 1908 and 1912 and is an example of the life and housing of coal mine workers. Most of the houses are still inhabited and are in various technical conditions. The goal of the thesis is the restoration of the colony area for contemporary living. Some of the existing houses will be preserved and reconstructed. A museum of workers' living and housing, for the purpose of tourism, will be created using a sample building. New construction of compact housing of an appropriate scale will be designed in the area.
