Abstract

The present thesis deals with the fire requirements for buildings built of constructions from natural materials. Emphasis is placed on the fire safety of buildings straw-bale houses. The first part provides brief description of low-energy and passive buildings. Further chapters describe selected natural materials and construction of straw–bale houses. In the last part I deal with fire safety straw-bale houses and description of available tests of fire resistance of straw-bale construction. The thesis should serve as summary of fire safety straw-bale houses.
