Abstract

The aim of this bachelor’s thesis is to show historical development of traction motors and their components. At the start is theoretical introduction about the design of electric rotating machinery, advantages and disadvantages of traction motors and their placement in locomotives. Thereafter is short passage about electrification systems which supply traction drives. Then is characterization of changes in some parts of traction motors, followed by part about experimental armature winding and general part from 1994 concerning the DC traction motors, next one is about beginning and development of three-phase traction motors. End is about development and expansion of electric railway traction and electric locomotives in Czech Republic.
