Abstract

With the increasing pollution of the Earth as a result of many industrial activities the need to resist the effects of harmful substances that threaten entire ecosystems is also increasing. One of dangerous substances for the environment is an organic compound p-phenylenediamine that may get into the environment through wastes, e.g. from the textile industry. For this reason, this thesis deals with the evaluation of p-phenylenediamine toxicity. Contact tests of semichronic p-phenylenediamine toxicity applied to different soil samples and standard soil for lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) and white mustard (Sinapis alba L.) were performed. Furthermore, the acute toxicity to aquatic algae Desmodesmus subspicatus that is essential part of the food chain, was examined. The inhibitory concentration IC50, i.e. the main endpoint, from the sigmoidal inhibition dependence on the decimal logarithm of the tested substance concentration was evaluated. Moreover, the effects of pH value changes on the inhibitory concentration for lettuce in selected soils, were studied. For all soil samples the parameters to their describe due to mutual comparison were determined.
