Abstract

This thesis deals with organic matter in sedimentary rocks of selected formations of Silesian Unit (Outer Western Carpathians, Czech Republic). It can be divided into two parts – investigation of hydrocarbon potential of lower Cretaceous formations of Silesian Unit and palaeoenvironmental interpretation of Silesian Basin at the Aptian to Cenomanian/Turonian boundary. The first part of the thesis, which deals with hydrocarbon potential investigation, is focused on Vendryně, Těšín Limestone, Hradiště, Veřovice and Lhoty Formations. 45 samples from 8 locations (Skalice, Jahodná, Nová Dědina, Lichnov, Soběšovice, Kunčice pod Ondřejníkem, Satina a Pindula) were analysed. Palynofacies analysis was performed on the samples and the values of TOC and TAI were determined. Based on acquired data, the highest hydrocarbon potential (kerogen type II, TOC <3%, TAI = 3,3) was found in Veřovice Formation, which most likely is a manifestation of Oceanic Anoxic Event 1. Hradiště and Lhoty Formations contain gas-prone type III kerogen. Těšín Limestone has a low thermal maturity. The second part of the thesis, which deals with palaeoenvironmental interpretation, is focused on the upper part of Lhoty Formation and its transition into the Mazák Formation in the Godula Subunit, and the Baška Formation in the Baška Subunit. 111 samples from 3 locations (Rychaltice, Ondřejnice-Hukvaldy and Bystrý potok) were analysed. Palynofacies analysis was performed on all the samples, and on selected samples the values of TOC and C and O isotopes were determined as well.
