Abstract

Even though mines in the vicinity of Ostrava and Karvina are being closed down nowadays, the issue of mine waters is still topical. Salt mine waters negatively influence the environment, fauna, and flora and for that reason, special attention should be paid to them. There are plants which have adapted to a high level of salinity. These are especially halophytes, mostly reeds, which can be used for phytoremediation. The bachelor thesis focuses on the influence of salt mine waters on halophytes. It characterizes mine waters and their chemistry. Furthermore, the thesis deals with bioaccumulation and phytoremediation. Finally, halophytes and their adaptation mechanisms are described.
