Abstract
The purpose of the thesis is to investigate different theories related to organizational change management with the aim being to enhance the change process in the traditional management domain with the human psychology insights. The goal of the thesis is to create a recommendation package on change management for Tieto Corporation by utilizing the combination of a well defined change process and the understanding of human reaction to the change.
In the first part of the thesis selected change management theories are analyzed. Further an understanding on different types of changes in Tieto Corporation is built. And finally the recommendation package per change type is created.
Four main theories are used as basis for the final recommendation package. On the process side the Kotter’s 8-stage process has been enhanced with Toman’s metamorphosing process recommendations. On the human psychology side the “Rider, Elephant and Path” theory presented by brothers Heath in the book Switch has been enhanced with Myers-Briggs typology subset, specific to different types of behaviour in the change process context. The first theory mentioned deals with the patterns generally applicable on humankind when it comes to reaction to change. The later one takes into account the differences between different individuals when it comes to the needs and strengths within the change process. All the theories listed above have been applied with the respect to the specifics of the Tieto Corporation.
