The aim of the thesis is to evaluate the economic development of Slovenia in the context of South-Eastern countries, and find out what lies behind success in Slovenia. The issue is examined by comparing the indicators, which is carefully selected to show classic factors of long run economic growth (physical capital, human capital, natural resources and technological progress) and institutional factors of long run economic growth (transition process, privatization process, quality of institution). The comparison is based on data mainly from the World Bank, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, UNESCO etc. The comparison shows that Slovenia has favorable conditions for long run economic development. Regarding transition process, Slovenia is the best in privatization of small enterprises and services and also international trade.
