Abstract

The thesis focuses on the importance of butterfly meadows in an urbanized area. The study area consists of the meadows in the urban district of Ostrava – Poruba. The aim of the thesis is to evaluate the significance of flowering meadows for butterfly biodiversity in cities. As part of the research, an analysis of seven meadows was conducted, where the species and abundance of butterflies were monitored from June to September 2024. The theoretical section discusses the role and importance of urban green spaces within the context of urbanization, as well as their impact on the environment and climate. In the experimental section, a botanical and lepidopterological survey was carried out in the selected meadows. In total, 16 butterfly species were observed, with the dominant species being Pieris rapae. Other common species include Gonepteryx rhamni and Pieris napi. The highest abundance was recorded in meadow number 2, while the lowest was observed in meadow number 6, which has the smallest area and is situated in the midst of a built-up zone.
