Abstract
Diploma thesis deals with studying principles and algorithms of digital image processing, using the knowledge of these principles to process an image of skin pigments and detect changes of those pigments in time.
Theoretical section of this thesis is divided into technical and medical part. Technical part explains digital image processing principles and algorithms. Medical part brings medical point of view to the topics of observation and evaluation skin pigments. The thesis is focused mainly on birthmarks and its changes throughout the time with emphasis on early detection of malignant transformation of epithelial cells, so called malignant melanoma.
Practical section of this thesis is focused on design and realization of digital image processing software, which analyses skin pigment and its properties. The software also automatically evaluates and compares the images in time to detect changes of the skin pigment, specifically birthmark.
The last section is dedicated to experimental verification of the software’s function and evaluation of the achieved results.
