Abstract

The diploma work deals with the detection of mechanical-physical properties of timber used especially for construction purposes. The work is focused on softwood, namely pine and spruce wood. The goal of my work is to find related coherence among individual mechanical-physical properties of structural timber. Mechanical-physical properties are measured by using different diagnostic methods. The related coherence is expressed as correlations between destructive and nondestructive or semidestructiv methods. The work includes development of new semidestructive method which examines the hardness of the timber by his drilling. The developed method is the alternative method to penetration method for detecting hardness of timber, which is commonly used. The relationship between hardness and tensile strength of wood has been known for a long time but there are still missing the mathematical relations for the mutual conversion. With the help of the correlation relationship there can be determined the results of using the nondestructive or semidestructive testing that determine compressive strength, flexural strength or modulus of the elasticity of timber. The results of this thesis can be practically applied and used in the civil engineering surveys of wooden or historical building.
