Abstract
This thesis focuses on polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) that belong to the group of persistent organic pollutants with a carcinogenic potential, such as the well known benzo[a]pyrene. Based on this thesis, considered as a pilot study, detailed monitoring of the areas of interest should be held. The selected polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons [anthracene (ANT), benzo[a]anthracene (BaA), benzo[k]fluoranthene (BkF), benzo[a]pyrene (BaP), dibenzo[ah]anthracene (DBahA), benzo[ghi]perylene (BghiPRL) and the total sum of these PAHs (∑PAHs)] were analyzed in sediments from the following areas of subsidence in Karvina region – Velký Loucký rybník, Barbora and the former coal ash settling basin Mokroš. High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with a fluorescence detector (FLD) was applied for the laboratory analysis. The obtained values of PAHs were compared to their contents in the atmosphere.
