Abstract

I focus my thesis on problems of machinery repairs, maintenance and diagnostics and economic benefits of such activities. Assessment of technical status of machinery based on experience and visual appearance is outdated, and it needs transition towards a system based upon permanent inspection and monitoring of the most critical machinery parts. Such an approach should bring higher reliability, lower operating and maintenance costs and capability to set and plan exactly the time of shut-down based on diagnostic outputs and thus fully utilize the lifetime of a machine part or a machinery unit. I intend to demonstrate on a practical example advantage of the vibration diagnostic instrument as an aid for assessing of the technical status of machine components or elements. Economic benefits of repairs and maintenance management based on outputs from the diagnostics exceed several times the acquisition costs of the instrument.
