Abstract
The diploma thesis deals with analysis of legislation and practice of food supplements in the Czech Republic. The aim of the thesis is to analyse the food supplement´s legislation and to find its possible imperfection, to find out subsequently what foreknowledge and interest in food supplements the Czech Republic population has and whether the legislation chimes with discovered awareness.
The thesis is divided into three parts and tries to relate the legal point of view with the consumer´s viewpoint in a way that a reader can make his or her own opinion on given issues built on facts and not on common speculations. The first part of the thesis mainly delimits the food supplement´s legislation including basic terms connected with the topic and also touches the issues – food supplements versus curative preparations. In this section the reader is also informed about the correct usage of these preparations and about reliable information sources from that field. The second part of the thesis specifically focuses on food supplements´ advertising in both legal and illegal ways of its regulation. Practical examples of sanctional advertisements are not omitted as well as those which were not sanctioned and can further foist to people the idea of the food supplements being something else than a foodstuff. The conclusion is dedicated to analysis of obtained data from a questionnaire survey made through an electronic inquiry.
