Abstract
This thesis investigates the use of spent coffee grounds as an organic additive for improving compost substrate properties and its effect on the growth of perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.). The aim was to evaluate the influence of different concentrations of spent coffee grounds (10 %, 30 %, and 50 %) on biomass production and selected physico-chemical properties of the substrate. A pot experiment was conducted using two types of compost substrates and two types of spent coffee grounds. The main evaluated parameter was aboveground biomass, together with substrate pH and elemental composition determined by XRF analysis. The results showed that a low concentration (10 %) may positively affect plant growth, whereas higher concentrations reduce biomass production. No significant accumulation of risk elements was observed.
