Abstract
This thesis deals with the political regimes and their influence on economic growth on the case of countries were the Czech Republic and Austria. Both established in the same year and they solved the same economic, political and cultural problems. Each World War affected economical situations of these states in the negative way. They got out of those crises because of foreign financial aid. The progress changed during the 1950s and the 1960s when Austria became the democratic republic whereas Czechoslovakia evolved into the socialistic republic under the impact of the Soviet Union. This different development was especially caused by the diverse attitudes to their economies. Austria was a the market economy, whereas Czechoslovakia chose the centrally planned economy. Economic differences of both countries had deepened until 1989 when the dictatorship of the Soviet Union fell down. Since 1990 after the split of Czechoslovakia, our republic has the democratical system, its economic development has been improving and the country slowly converges to the Austiran economic level.
