Abstract
The main intention of this thesis is to describe the principles and the utilization of message sending systems. The stress is mainly laid on the options of application on the Java Platform, Enerprise Edition by means of the Java Message Service technology. The opening part of the thesis deals with the general principles of messaging systems along with the aspects of asynchronous communication between systems (including an introduction of its participants). In the following part readers are apprised of the contents of the Java Message Service Specification and its application programming interface. Subsequently some existing implementations of messaging systems are briefly introduced, whereas the open-source implementation of HornetQ (formerly known as JBoss Mesaging) from JBoss, a division of Red Hat, Inc., is described more closely as well as the option to connect it to other platforms' applications through the STOMP protocol. At the end of the thesis an implementation of the example application is outlined, showing the various features of the Java Message Service API.
