Abstract

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to evaluate the relationship of the legal environment and economic development of selected Balkan countries. The work is focused on the Balkan countries, especially on Albania, Bulgaria, Romania and Greece. The methods used include descriptive analysis whereby the historical development of countries is described. The method of comparative analysis was used to compare results of particular countries. Finally, the correlation analysis was applied to examine the relationship between two selected variables. Greece stands on the highest position in the Human Development Index and also in the quality of institutions. Bulgaria and Romania achieve similar results. Albania loses to other states. It may be said the high value of the economic development in the country is related to the quality of the legal environment, which isbetter at higher HDI. The value of HDI has grown together with growth of values of legal environment indexes in Albania, Bulgaria and Romania which means in this case HDI increases together with the quality of the legal environment. Greece is the only country where HDI has increased whereas the quality of the legal environment has decreased. After finishing the correlation analysis it was found Albania is the country with the strongest dependence between the economic performance and the quality of legal environment. Romania and Bulgaria come after Albania. The correlation between the quality of the law rule and the economic performance was not proved in Greece.
