Abstract

This thesis examines the breakdown voltage of air in inhomogeneous fields, focusing on the following factors: the influence of material, polarity, and electrode spacing. The aim of the thesis was to experimentally verify, using laboratory tests, the individual elecrode types and the extent to which the breakdown voltage is influenced by the material and shape of the electrodes. The first part of this thesis focuses on the physical mechanisms of discharge in gas. The second part describes the methodology and the course of the measurement procedure. The third part presents a statistical evaluation. This thesis also includes 2D models of the individual electric fields for which measurements were performed.
