Abstract

The goal of the bachelor's thesis is to evaluate the performance of the main services of the university library of the VŠB - Technical University of Ostrava for the period 2018-2022. Selected statistical data were chosen for the analysis, from which ratio indicators were compiled for evaluating the performance and economic analysis of the selected library. The denominator of these indicators is the staff or a certain number of readers. The analysis focused primarily on the development of these ratio indicators: the volume of the library fund and its increments per 100 readers, the number of e-books and their increments per reader, the number of loans per reader, the number of processed requests from the library system per 100 readers, the number of library visits per reader, the volume of payroll costs per employee, the share of payroll costs in the total library budget, and the volume of total costs per reader. From the analysis results, it is evident that the most efficient years of the examined university library were 2018 and 2019. In these years, the monitored indicators showed the highest values. In 2020, there was a decline in performance indicators, which was caused by the limitation of library activities and thus their services. This trend, caused by the coronavirus pandemic, also prevailed in the following year 2021, with the last monitored year, 2022, recording an increase in indicator values due to the relaxation of previously implemented measures. Economic ratio indicators, on the other hand, experienced an increase over the five-year horizon.
