Abstract

This diploma thesis deals with the effect of different environments on the mechanical properties of carbon fibre composite materials. The thesis focuses on a theoretical research of the types of environments that have a negative effect on composite materials. Furthermore, it includes a practical part in which a specific type of carbon fibre based composite material is tested in different types of environments and subsequent testing of the mechanical properties of the tested samples. These mechanical properties were further compared with the biocomposite material samples, which were exposed to the same environment and also tested. The result is a comparison of these two types of materials and a conclusion as to which one may be susceptible to change in mechanical properties when exposed to chemical environmental influences.
