Abstract
JANIČINA, Vladimír. The effect of firefighting on traces at the fire scene for the purposes of fire investigation. Ostrava, 2025. Thesis. VŠB – Technila University of Ostrava, Faculty of Safety Engineering. Supervisor prof. Dr. Ing. Aleš Dudáček.
This thesis examines the influence of firefighting operations on the preservation, alteration, or destruction of traces found at a fire scene, which are essential for determining the cause and origin of a fire. The primary objective is to identify how various firefighting techniques and extinguishing agents affect forensically significant evidence and to propose procedures that minimize trace degradation during intervention. The thesis provides an overview of relevant legislation and methodological frameworks, analyzes common types of traces encountered at fire scenes, and evaluates their sensitivity to water, foam, and specialized extinguishing media. It also includes an assessment of selected model scenarios and a comparison of the outcomes of interventions based on different tactical approaches. The findings result in practical recommendations aimed at improving both the effectiveness of firefighting operations and the reliability of subsequent fire cause investigations.
