Abstract

The thesis is focused on the misuse of knowledge of biotechnology to develop biological weapons. With the ever-growing knowledge and the new discoveries also increases the possibility of their misuse. The first chapter deals with the development of biotechnological weapons from the very beginning when the troops have contaminated sources of drinking water of their enemies to weaken them so up to today when these biological weapons can be exploited in an incredible scale. The work also contains a description of selected species of pathogenic microorganisms which can be misused as a biological threat. Diseases which they can cause including the first symptoms for their early recognition. There are also mentioned some examples of world history which led to the disease caused by infection worldwide. In the end of this thesis you will find standards and laws dealing with this issue.
