Abstract

The subject of this thesis is an urban and architectural design of low-rise buildings with prevailing housing share. The site is located in Prague 6 - Sedlec close to the Vltava meander. Objects are addressed in relation to the topography of the terrain and its limit elements. The big problem in the area is a noise from railway, which had to react accordingly. When designing urban structures I put the greatest accent on the hierarchy of common spaces and their smooth transitions. The area was established as semi-private system of courts, which are linked to individual residential houses. Also for me it was important to minimize vehicular traffic, so most of the parking space is located underground. The surface is free for landscaping, which give the whole set unique atmosphere. All roads in the area are designed as pedestrian zones. Combining an emphasis on pedestrian movement and significant landscaping creates residential structure that could be characterized as "living in the park."
