Abstract
This thesis is focused on the possibilities of the thermochemical processing of polymer waste, particularly pyrolysis of polystyrene with the use of catalyst and without. Degree of styren conversion and styrene itself were the monitored elements of polystyrene conversion. Waste polymer pyrolysis is an endothermic process of chemical recycling under atmospheric conditions. The experiment were carried out at temperatures of 400, 450 and 500 °C. MgO, MgCO3, BaO and CaO were the used catalysts. The aim was to analyze the resulting pyrolysis products of polystyrene and also the material balance of the process. From the obtained results, it was found that the best results of styren conversion (up to 83 wt %) can be achieved by using catalytic pyrolysis at the temperature of 400 °C with MgO as a catalyst.
