Abstract

This thesis aims to evaluate the effectiveness of insurance companies operating on the Czech insurance market between 2014 and 2018 with the use of DEA models. The main goal is to divide the units into effective and inefficient. The thesis consists of five chapters where the first one is an introduction and the fifth is a conclusion. The theoretical section is formed by chapters two and three. The second chapter describes the basic statements of insurance companies, which are the balance sheet and profit and loss statement. The third chapter is concentrated on the characteristics of DEA models. It describes the basic concepts, principles and specific types of models including their modifications. The fourth chapter is a practical part of the thesis. It defines the evaluated decision making units, the software used for the calculations, the inputs and outputs by which the units will be evaluated, as well as the specific model chosen. The efficiency model used is supplemented by the model of super-efficiency and consequently also the window analysis. The vastest attention is given to the last assessed the year 2018. Finally, the achieved results are summarized and evaluated.
