Abstract

This study evaluates the level of fire safety of railways passenger transport and of all the other mass transport rail systems in Czech Republic. It also highlights how different approaches, measures and evaluations of fire safety are applied to railway buildings and to vehicles. The standards in Czech Republic and EU are being compared, including TSI guidelines. Also, the unification of fire safety standards is being discussed for the situations, when vehicles of different age and of different level of fire safety standards are being used together. The study then suggests proactive steps to ensure fire safety on regional and local railways. Having the budget situation of these local networks in mind, these steps are mostly of managerial nature.
