Abstract

Successful clusters in the world show that even small regions can create and maintain world leadership in key sectors, despite increasing global competition. It is also clear that regions able to maintain such leadership, are also tend to be effective creators of wealth and offer their citizens better jobs and better future prospects. The aim of this thesis is to assess the role and importance of clusters in regional development. The work aims to determine how large clusters have an impact on the development of the new region. It is focused on the Moravian-Silesia region and the important role played by Cluster Envicrack. For evaluation was used professional literature, web sites and have also provided documents and information from the Cluster Envicrack. In this work are defined the basic terms of the legislation relating to clusters and was also conducted brief analysis of the Moravian-Silesian Region in terms of based clusters and sectors that contribute to the development of this region. The work is complemented by an analysis of the selected cluster to which it is possible to demonstrate that the clusters may represent a tool to improve performance and competitiveness of firms that areparticipate in the activities of clusters, but also the region in which it operates.
