Abstract
The aim of this diploma thesis is to approach the issue of remuneration of teaching
staff using methods of description, comparison, secondary analysis and synthesis. The areas
studied are evaluated on the basis of the theoretical background and practical knowledge. The
hypothesis of the diploma thesis is based on the stated facts about the low pay of pedagogical
staff.
The first chapter focuses on the theoretical definition of the labour market, which describes
the system of remuneration of workers and its requirements based on the Labour Code. It
discusses the distinction between business and non-business spheres, including their
specification. For the content of the topic, the thesis focuses on the remuneration of teaching
staff in educational institutions, the remuneration of paid teachers. The second chapter
specifies the pedagogical worker, the necessary legislation and differences in the
remuneration of teachers, the system of assigning a specific salary. Career guidelines and non-
financial benefits are also mentioned. The practical chapters of the thesis are focused on the
concrete comparison of the salaries of educational staff at international, national and regional
level. At the international level, the average salary is broken down after 15 years of
experience in different OECD countries, as well as salary in the beginning and top of each
country's career, the level of wage to GDP and comparison with other professions. Also
mentioned is the prestige index of the teacher in international comparison. Within the Czech
Republic, the work compares the salaries of teachers of regional education, especially with
teachers of general educational subjects. The monitored indicator is the average wage, but
also its median and decilies. The sub-chapters disaggregate the salary of the teacher compared
to the average wage, selected job positions, salary and salary differences and comparison to
the level of NUTS 3 territorial units. Attention is also paid to the prestige of the teaching
profession. The ranked positions are selected on the basis of specified criteria from the level
of individual groups of employees in the CZ ISCO job classification. In the last subchapter,
the findings are summarized.
In conclusion is a summary of the topic with the author´s thesis.
