Abstract

This bachelor's thesis deals with the transition of municipal waste collection from an external service to an in-house waste collection system. The aim of the thesis is to evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of the transition from external to in-house municipal waste collection from economic, operational, and environmental perspectives. In the theoretical part, different models of waste collection and factors influencing the decision of cities are described. The practical part focuses on a case study of the city of Litvínov and a comparison with other cities that have already made this transition. The results of the analysis show that municipal waste collection can bring long-term financial savings, greater efficiency and better control over the quality of services. At the same time, however, it requires considerable initial investment and places high demands on the organisation of operations.
