Abstract
This thesis is a detailed proposal of an alternative solution for the conversion of the intersection of streets Hlavní třída and Francouzská in the defined corridor DK33 according to the Urban Plan of Ostrava located in Ostrava-Poruba. The reason for the conversion of the T-intersection is its existing condition, which is progressively becoming more unsatisfactory due to the constantly increasing traffic intensity and the developing area around it. This condition is strictly related to increased traffic accidents, increased congestion circumstances, a high number of collision situations, more noted conflict situations and a reduction in the flow and safety of vehicles, pedestrians and cyclers traffic. For this matter two options were considered.
The first proposal is a normal single-lane roundabout that allows for least amount of deconstruction as much as possible. The second option proposes a turbo-roundabout of the egg type, which is formed by two connecting spirals.
During the design of the reconstruction of the intersection, it was made sure that all aspects of the designs carried out in accordance with the applicable regulations and standards.
The proposed options were finally subjected to a multi-criteria evaluation, according to which the most suitable solution for the reconstruction of the intersection was chosen to be option 1 and a preliminary budget was assumed. Hence, the existing T-intersection would be rebuilt into a single-lane roundabout, which would ensure both the safety of all traffic participants and the smoothest possible passage through the intersection.
