Abstract

This Bachelor Thesis deals with the issue of floods and related flood protection. It has two parts, theoretical and practical. The theoretical part discusses and classifies floods. In more detail, there are described factors and causes which influence the intensity of floods and their consequences. This part also describes flood protection measures, lists the different flood control measures and classifies them. The practical part is focused on the Petruvka River. This part contains the characteristics of the interest area and evaluation of the river course conditions. It describes the specific flood protection measures for this watercourse, objects and the related level of flood hazard. It also calculates the drainage area and the erosion hazard rate. In addition, the figures display the river floodplains.
