Abstract

This thesis deals with the economic growth of the euro area in 1999–2011. The goal of this thesis is the evaluation of the economic growth of the euro area by analyse the empirical data of the member states and by comparision with other important world´s economics – USA, Japan, the EU and the BRICS countries. The thesis is divided into three main chapters. The first part defines applied methods, it introduces data resources used for analysis in the following chapters, it defines the economic growth and its measurement, and it provides a basic overview of different theories of the economic growth. The second main chapter deals with historical development of the economic and monetary union in the European integration and it provides an analysis of empirical data in the period 1999–2011. This analysis is focused on economic power, economic level and economic growth in the member states of euro area. Finally, analyses and comparisions of economic power, economic level and economic growth in the euro area and in the other important world´s economics are summarized in the third chapter of this thesis.
