Abstract
This thesis describes EU development assistance and cooperation with particular focus on African countries. The goal is to define the basic characteristics of development assistance and cooperation both theoretically and also as a part of EU development policy, the historical development of Africa and its most serious problems, the EU-Africa partnership and EU specific actions in African countries. Development cooperation and assistance are one of the most important tools that help undeveloped countries to combat the specific problems and contribute to their economic and social development. The European Union is one of the most important donors of development assistance and cooperation in the world. The conclusion of thesis is therefore focused on the activities of specific EU tools, programs and projects that eliminate the problems of the African region and improve the living conditions of African people.
