Abstract

The work deals with possibilities using of glass slag produced during the combustion of biomass in building industry. It’s a waste product with glass characteristic, which may also contain ash and other pollutants. This waste is significantly different according to the used types of biomass, soil, temperature and time of combustion. Structure of this material is mostly porous and glassy. Building materials, in which you can apply and use a good properties of this slag, are cementitious or alkali-activated composites. Slag, due of the nature, can be used as a lightweight filler or binder. When using glass slag as lightweight filler its physical and mechanical properties will be investigated. Basic characteristics were examined on the fine mill slag at which they were found out, among other, pozzolanic properties, thus the suitability of using this material as a partial substitute binders, such as cement. Next we research if the glass slag is possible for usage as a light filling for concrete. Then we will test physical and mechanical properties and if this waste material is even fit for construction industry.
