Potential Benefits of the Revitalization of the Watercourse Ostravice for Tourism Development in Ostrava

This diploma work evaluates the revitalization of The Ostravice River from an environmental impact point of view. It analyses its affect on increasing how often the centre of the city is visited and assesses the economic and social aspects of the revitalization.

The first chapter deals with watercourse revitalization in a general way, evaluates the quality of watercourse in the Czech Republic and the quality of The Ostravice surface water. It also deals with water policy and legislation in the areas of water protection, the financing of The Ostravice River revitalization activities and concerns the development documentation of The City of Ostrava. The second chapter is devoted to projects of The City of Ostrava, relying on the concept "The Revitalization and Humanization of the Watercourse Ostravice". It also contains an evaluation of compensation measures and a summary of the methods of financing individual projects. The third chapter evaluates the economic and social aspects of revitalization and proposes new alternatives for attracting visitors to the centre of the city.
