Abstract

This bachelor thesis is about Gothic style, focusing on the development of architecture and exterior decoration of the cathedrals. Essential parts of cathedrals and their decorations are gargoyles and fantasy sculptures. Before producing metal cast, draft of the statue has been created, statue of gargoyle is inspired by demonic creatures. The thesis is divided into two parts - theoretical and practical. The theoretical part marginally describes Gothic style, the development and basic architectural elements. Furthermore, it describes the Gothic cathedral, especially in France, their importance and exterior decoration and also gargoyles and statues, which are protecting cathedrals against evil forces. The second part is devoted to practical side of bachelor thesis. It describes the entire process of making artistic bronze cast. From drawing and clay model over wax model, gypsum-clay mold and finally casting of the cast and finishing.
