Abstract
The main objective is to analyze the wage differentials in the labour market by selected characteristics, in relation to their possible causes and manifestations on wage levels. The problem of wage differentiation is first conceived theoretically and then applied to the Slovak Republic in the years 2004 - 2010 using statistical characteristics. The analysis is performed in terms of average and median wages by age, education, major classification category of employment, selected economic activity and regions. Wage disparities are not caused only in the Slovak Republic by differences in economic power of regions, but also for example by level of international cooperation, stage of economic development, education and qualification structure in the region, the technical facilities and social infrastructure, etc. In conclusion are summarized and explained the results obtained wage differentiation in the Slovak Republic.
