Abstract

This diploma thesis inquires into the methodology of measuring with a solid-state gamma spectrometer FALCON 5000 and its practical exploitation. In the theoretical part I note the legal documents related to the radioactivity and to the statistics about the radiation accidents in the Czech Republic. Furthermore there are summarized detail findings about radioactivity and ionising radiation. I explore the use of ionising raditation in practice, gamma spectrometry and the principle of solid-state detectors. The applicative part of the work is focused on measuring of radioactivity with a solid-state gamma spectrometer FALCON 5000, description and evaluation of the advantages and disadvantages of the this device. The goal of my thesis work is to find an optimal method for measuring which results in elaboration of the methodic list. The subsequent aim is to establish the most effective way of use of the device in various situations.
